Nzola De Magalhães's Bio:
Dr. Nzola De Magalhães is a biomedical scientist and engineer by training. She received three bachelor degrees (Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Women Studies), a minor in French, a master’s and a doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. She is also certified in Electro-Optics and in Immunohistotechnology. Prior to pursuing her graduate degrees, she worked professionally as a raw material chemist. Her research background and expertise is in basic and translational cancer research, photonics with emphasis in photomedicine, biomedical imaging, and pre-clinical drug testing and development. Dr. De Magalhães is fluent in Portuguese, French, and Spanish. In her spare time, she volunteers as a judge of oral and poster presentations, as an abstract reviewer, and a speaker at national STEM conferences and fairs. Capitalizing on her teaching and mentoring experiences, she also serves as a mentor at organizations dedicated to enhancing the retention and success of undergraduate female and minority students in STEM fields.
